  • Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you all very much. I'm, I'm so excited to be here. Good evening everybody, ladies, gentlemen, er, Felicity. I'm Jon Stewart and welcome to the 78th Annual Academy Awards. Er, an exciting night, an exciting night. Tonight is the night we celebrate excellence in film with me the 4th male lead from "Death to Smoochy" rent it. And right now around the world we are being watched by hundreds of millions of people, nearly half of whom are in the process of being adopted by Angenina Jolie. I'm wait listed. It's good stuff. It is incred...I have to say, it's a little shocking to see all these big names here, these huge stars. The Oscar is really, I guess, the one night of the year where you could see all your favorite stars without having to donate any money to the Democratic Party, and it's exciting for the stars as well. This is er, the first time many of you have ever voted for a winner. Oh, it's good. You enjoy, enjoy your votes. The theme of the award show tonight is a return to glamour and thank goodness because for too long Hollywood has done without. Definitely this is an improvement over last year's theme 'night of a thousand sweat pants.' Let's face facts. It hasn't been the best year for Hollywood. The box office was, ermmmm, a little bit, down, and piracy continues to be a problem. So let me just say that if there is anyone out there involved in an illegal movie piracy. Don't do it. Take a good look at these people, these are the people you are stealing from, Look at them!! Face what you've done. There are women here who can barely afford enough gown to cover their breasts. There are a lot really big stars here tonight. It's really exciting. We've got the man Mr. George Clooney, triple nominee. No, Stop it! Stop it! It's you. It's a, it's a terrific night. Two of the nominations for "Good Night and Good Luck", which is not just Edward R. Murrow's sign-off. It's also how Mr. Clooney ends all his dates. Now, I kid because I envy. The cast of Capote, is also with us, a tremendous film, ground-breaking, No! I applaud you. I applaud you. Capote was a ground-breaking film that broke taboos that showed America not all gay people are virile cowboys. Some are actually effete New York intellectuals. It's true. Capote, of course, addressed very similar themes to "Good Night and Good Luck". Both films are about determined journalists, defying obstacles in a relentless pursuit of the truth. Needless to say both are period pieces. There is also, cartoon drama, farth, I say, farth, I demand satisfaction. All right, Steve Spielberg is here? Sir, a pleasure. We've never met. A Best Director nomination for Munich, a tremendous film and I congratulate you, Sir. From the man who also gave us Schindler's List. Schindler's List and Munich, I think I speak for all Jews when I say "I can't wait to see what happens to us next. Trilogy! Yeah, I do have some sad news to report, er, Bjork, couldn't be here tonight. She was trying on her Oscar dress and Dick Cheney shot her. Um, glad you hear it. Charlize Theron is here nominated for North Country, a tremendous performance. I congratulate you as well. Have you ever seen the film, it's, it's, it's really wonderful. Er, she plays a woman who is constantly judged on her looks and paid less than her male co-workers. It must be wonderful to be done with that and back here in Hollywood. I think, er, first time nominee Matt Dillon is joining us, er, a wonderful career. I have enjoyed his work for many many years. I wanted to be him for many many years. He was in Crash, his co-star Sandra Bullock, er, right next to him. Also in Crash Terrence Howard is here. Don Cheadle, Brendan Fraser, er, Ryan Phillipe also from Crash. You, you know what, actually, you know what would be easier? Raise your hand if you were not in Crash! But all the films this year, er, that have been nominated are, are excellent films. They deal with racism, corruption, terrorism, and censorship. It's why we go to the movies, to escape!I'll tell you the movies that do very well, they're remaked. King Kong, they made that a couple of times, and this time, smash hit. War of the Worlds, remake, tremendous. Walk the line, er, it's Ray, with white people, remakes See, Jimmie, I know. But I have to say I'm from New York and I've been out here a week and I have had a great time. I really mean that. And um, a lot of people say that this town is too liberal, out of touch with mainstream America, an atheistic pleasure dome , a modern day beachfront stardom and camauro. A moral black hole where innocence is obliterated in an endless orgy of sexual gratification and greed. I don't really have a joke here, I er, I just thought you should know a lot of people are saying that. Well, I have been to the parties, there you go. Now you are talking! Obviously one last thing I want to mention, the elephant in the room. Er, the movie that everybody was talking about this year, of course we are talking about Brokeback Mountain. Er, I have no problems with gay themes. Um, there were a lot of them this year, let's face facts, I mean for god's sakes, the boxing movie was called Cinderella Man, I mean, there is a lot gay themes. I just felt the Brokeback tarnishes the noble western tradition, rugged men, who represent the heterosexual ideal. Um, I'm sorry I just feel like there is nothing remotely gay about the classic Hollywood westerns. Mind if I look at you Winchester? It's real pretty. Nice, awful nice.Suppose if I tangle with him I'll have to take you all on too.Oh, I'll have you sp eagle on a wagon wheel. But remember whatever happens, this is strictly between you and me, and the horse. Right?I don't know why you thought you had to come in to say goodbye.Good bye that I have in mind will take a little more room than we have in here.Yeah, Yeah, that's how they used to make them, not really sure what my point was about that. Er, I'll say this, Charlton Heston is cut. Guylooks like he has been lifting 20 commandments. Um, a lot of times for the Oscars, people aren't quite sure how the presenters come out, how the order's determined, so tonight we're gonna try something a little bit different. Er, we're going to be introducing the presenters in order of how talented they are. No? Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Academy Award winner, Nicole Kidman. 200809/47649。
A former White House spokesman says Americans have lost trust in U.S. President George Bush, because he is refusing to reveal his administration's involvement in leaking the identity of a previously-covert CIA operative. The Bush administration dismisses the allegations, saying the former spokesman is misinformed. Former White House Spokesman Scott McClellan says then Chief of Staff Andrew Card told him that President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney wanted him to tell reporters that the Vice President's chief of staff was not involved in leaking the name of a CIA operative. That Chief of Staff, Lewis Libby, was later convicted of obstructing the investigation into the leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity. Her husband, a former U.S. ambassador, was a vocal critic of the president's justification for invading Iraq. McClellan told the House Judiciary Committee Friday that White House officials leaked Plame's identity to get back at her husband. "I do not know whether a crime was committed by any of the administration officials who revealed Valerie Plame's identity to reporters, nor do I know if there was an attempt by any person or persons to engage in a cover-up during the investigation," he said. "I do know that it was wrong to reveal her identity because it compromised the effectiveness of a covert official for political reasons. I regret that I played a role, however unintentionally, in relaying false information to the public about it." Asked about McClellan's testimony, the current White House Deputy Spokesman Tony Fratto said McClellan has probably aly told everyone everything he doesn't know, so Fratto does not think anyone should expect him to say anything new. Judiciary Committee Chairman Democrat John Conyers says McClellan's allegations are the most important matter Congress could examine in its oversight of the administration. When White House insiders leak classified information, manipulate media coverage and otherwise employ their immense power to punish dissenters, Congress does not have any other option," he said. "It has a Constitutional duty to check and balance an errant Executive Branch." The ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee, Texas Congressman Lamar Smith, questioned McClellan's motivation for writing a book that contradicts everything he said and did as White House Spokesman. Scott McClellan alone will have to wrestle with whether it was worth selling out the president and his friends for a few pieces of silver," he said. McClellan says he wrote the book, in part, because he was prohibited from discussing the matter in 2005 due to the criminal investigation. He says he made a commitment to share with the public what he knew as soon as possible and believes President Bush could restore much of the trust McClellan says he has lost by doing the same. The continuing cloud of suspicion over the White House is not something I can remove because I know only one part of the story," he added. "Only those who know the underlying truth can bring this to an end. Sadly, they remain silent." President Bush commuted Libby's two-and-a-half year prison sentence, sparing him from serving time. McClellan says that was special treatment that further undermined the president's commitment to justice. Current White House Spokeswoman Dana Perino says it is sad that McClellan is so disgruntled about his experience. She says those who supported McClellan before, during, and after he was press secretary are puzzled because this is not the man they thought they knew. 200806/42408。

Anna. Sorry, Anna. Where were we? Well, I said that firstly, this job is an ideal match for my skills and experience. Secondly, the company is growing fast...and… and… above all… the reason I want this job is… Yes? Is everything alright? /201612/479863。
  • What the hell is that? There's some kind of unidentified bogie coming in from the north. Roger that. And it's coming in fast. He has a huge responsibility and Martha is only one that he can talk to about, he, you know, he's altered ...his other personality. Um, so when he comes back and, and he's kind of faced with, you know, how do I get back in the society. Um, you know, how do I...I was never really in it, in the first place, but my little part...the little part of me that was, is... is now, has now but/been challenged that, that I, that image that I have there is not what it was and how do I re, uh, incorporate myself back into that life.I think there're a few elements that make Superman er, so popular. Er, you know, being heroes... we, we all love heroes. We, we love to be inspired by, by people and by things and er, Superman stands for everything that's great in humanity. I think, um, all the things we can inspire to as humans to become more like him. And it was er.... it was very satisfying to, to let everyone see, um, at all the work that we'd done, um and to kick off a, a filming, you know, Superman's part of the film. Um, it was, it was very, very neat. I think Lois originally wrote that article because she was so hurt. So I think the original motivation came from anger, fear, pain... um really what everyone feels when somebody they love leaves them and they have questions and they can't ask that person cause they're not there. Ur,I think she needed an outlet to vent that. She's definitely the type of woman that ur,...she thinks she doesn't need to be saved ever, you know, and er, she um, she'll just take care of things on her own. She's very independent. She's very driven, very strong-willed, which can be slightly frustrating for the man in her lives. Josh, this is came through the fax. It's Lois's handwriting. I recognized it anywhere I just, no idea what the numbers mean. The coordinates. This is just off the coast. Jimmy, tell Perry I'm taking the seaplane. And keep trying her cell. Brandon assumes such a different personality and such a different posture, um, as Superman, which is, er, is really cool to see as well, to see how he plays Clark Kent compared to...Superman is such a subtle change. But it's a really incredible one as well. Well, which article? I wrote dozens about them. I was practically a press agent. I Spent The Night with Superman. Richard, come on. It was the title of an interview. Plus, it was your Uncle Perry's idea. ...., no no, I know...I know it's ok, it's ok.Richard, it's a long time ago. Were you in love with him?Hmm, he was Superman. Everyone was in love with him. But were you?Mr. Luthor, we're approaching the coordinates. This is where he learnt who he was. This is where he came for guidance. Tell me everything.Superman is a, is a superhero, but he's also a man, and, and has all of the, I think emotional er, qualities that any human being has. He just happens to have these powers that allow him to fight against the evil, against the world. Gods are selfish beings who fly around with little red capes and don't share their power with mankind. No, I don't wanna be a god. I just want to bring fire to the people and I want my cut. Before I the script, Bryan talked to me about that it was gonna be er, it was gonna be a film that although it was gonna have all those elements of the comic book and,and certainly the, the level of humor that I think that certainly the downer er, films did, but that it was gonna be darker, and in particular Lex Luthor was going to be um, a character who wasn't quite the used car salesman, er... but more of somebody who's gone through so many changes and,and then feels that he's been so betrayed that he's now out for revenge. Come on, let me hear you say. Just once...You're insane. No! Not that. No,the other thing.Superman will never...WRONG!Bring it on!What have you got, Olson?Look, in the sky, Chief. It's a bird. It's a plane. No, look, it's...You wanted to see me? 200809/50672。
